Riding the School Bus

This is a picture of myself , my sister Lois and our Black Lab.. Queenie.
I grew up on a farm 3 miles from our town of Avoca, Iowa. The school bus would come at 7 am in the morning. We were the first kids on in the morning and luckily one of the first off the the afternoon. Our morning ride was about an hour. It was great memories of sitting with our friends, talking, singing, playing cats cradle, doing homework etc. My bus driver for my entire school experience was Eric Olson. He was more than a bus driver... he was my protector, encourager, and friends. He had such a great sense of humor. I was always forgetting something and he would allow me to run back to the house to retrieve it, but his favorite line to me was...."Nancy if your head wasn't fastened on, you'd probably forget it too!!"
What great memories!!!

Proud New Parents

This is a picture of my parents holding me in 1962.

This is my father Raleigh Woltmann when he was a young man. I'm guessing this picture was taken in the early 40's.

This picture was taken at a church function in Avoca, Iowa, my hometown. My parents were members of the Congregational Church in Avoca.

Beautiful Church Stained Glass Windows

This is the church where my parents were married in 1961. It's the Bridgewater Iowa Methodist Church. It's has the most beautiful stained glass windows.

The interior looking back from the pulpit area. It still has the original curved pews.

These window are so beautiful with the morning sun shinning through. I remember as a little girl visiting my Grandparents church just how beautiful all the colored glass .

They are even more beautiful than I remember.

Bridgewater House

This is the front porch of our Bridgewater "Lake House" on a beautiful fall day several years ago.
John added shutters and painted them red. It really made the house pop.

My Parents posed for this fall shot in front of the burning bush.
John and the boys are carving a pumpkin for the porch. Bridgewater has a wonderful vintage Halloween party every year in their old gym built in 1923 where my Mom went to school. It's so great. We try to get over there every year to take it in.

Case Steam Engine which has been in our Family since 1915

My father Raleigh Woltmann on his 80th birthday June 20th, 2005 which was also Father's Day. For his birthday we had a big picnic and he fired up his steam engine and invited many friends and neighbors.

Nathan and Nolan Faselt hanging on to the giant cast iron wheels. It was a great day for a family. We all had matching shirts and my father had "buttons" made for the event. This is typical for Steam Engine Shows that he's attended over the years.
